Today we’re going to talk about a phrase you might hear in English: «She’ll come around». This is what we call a phrasal verb, which is when two or more words come together to create a completely new verb with a meaning that’s different from the individual words.
When we say «She’ll come around», we mean that someone who was once against something will eventually change their mind and come to agree with it. For example, let’s say your friend doesn’t like sushi, but you convince her to try it. At first, she might be hesitant, but eventually, she might «come around» and realize that she actually likes it!
Another example could be in a romantic relationship. If someone is unsure about their feelings for someone else, but eventually falls in love with them, we could say that they «came around» to the idea of being with that person.
We use phrasal verbs a lot in English, so it’s important to understand what they mean. If you come across a phrasal verb you don’t know, try to break it down into the individual words and see if you can figure out what it means.
